FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Can I make them pay me more than what they tell me I’m going to get?
A: Yes. You can and should claim everything eligible under the URA. It is not unusual to challenge the government’s claim amount and result in a claim substantially higher than what they told you.
Q: Who decides how much I am supposed to get for relocation?
A: Typically a government bureaucrat makes the initial decision and you know what their motivations are. If you ask for more money and document the reason why, they usually pay that amount if the URA says they have to. If you have a dispute a Hearing Officer who hears both sides of the claim makes the final decision.
Q: How do I know how to claim everything?
A: You need to know the URA rules and how to make them work for you. Most people and their lawyers do not know what they are eligible to receive or how to claim the benefits. Schnitker & Associates, P.A., knows the rules and how to make a claim.
Q: The guy from the government was such a nice person; I don’t know if I really want to challenge them. A: Most relocation personnel are nice but they know who signs their checks. They do what they feel they have to do for you and no more. We have never represented a client where we were not able to increase a claim. Generally, the increases are substantial.
Q: Does it cost me money to hire a lawyer from Schnitker & Associates, P.A.?
A: You can pay as a percentage of your claim or hire us at an hourly rate. Either way we will only work for you if we think we can help you. This is usually easy for us to do because we know the law.
